“I believe that when a traveler from the ‘depths of space’ arrives here on Earth, it will inadvertently alter our ecosphere and everything connected. Likewise, when this same visitor returns to its world of origin, existence there will unintentionally, yet similarly, be amended; not necessarily for the worse, just change it.
It seems, therefore, that our literature and screenplays agree, and suggest that it really should happen; that we then expect it to be so. Our fascination with the unknown also suggests that we long to change our perception of our reality. But true to the complexity of our species, at the same moment that we are about to absorb this change into our culture as an alternate truth, we object and lie that it never happened. It is true that we want to believe, but we oddly also support those that criticize the advocates who promote change.
There is an Indigenous American proverb that claims that the one who tells the story rules the world. Possibly making a belief an oxymoron.”
